E.J. Jenkins — TE, PHI (2026)

Verdict

AVOID (high confidence). The RP gate (te.md §2) doesn't just fail — it never opens: Jenkins has run essentially zero NFL routes in three seasons (11 offensive snaps and 0 targets in 2025, on DEV/practice-squad status), so there is no usage record and no efficiency signal to project from. Per the skill's gate rule, this eval is shortened accordingly. The 2026 path is barricaded by an eight-man TE room in which Philadelphia added R2 P54 capital (Eli Stowers) *ahead* of him, re-signed Goedert (1yr/$7M) and Calcaterra, and signed veteran blocking TE Johnny Mundt — Jenkins is TE6-7 fighting for a practice-squad return, and he was waived at final cuts in 2025. Why the anti-market (the stashers) is wrong: the only argument for a free player is a live contingent path, and Jenkins has none — a Goedert injury routes snaps to Stowers, Calcaterra, and Mundt, leaving Jenkins three-plus depth-chart events from routes while still needing to survive cutdown day. Zero cost does not beat zero path; a bench spot has opportunity cost.

Bull case

  • Organization keeps re-signing him: three straight seasons in the building (two reserve/future deals, a 2024 active-roster promotion, Super Bowl LIX ring on ST) — the staff sees a useful camp/ST body, which is how TE4 jobs get won.
  • Goedert is 31 on a one-year deal with recent injury history; if he misses time *and* the rookie stalls *and* a cut/injury hits Calcaterra or Mundt, TE snaps open on a top-5 offense.
  • The one verifiable trait is real: ~4.5 pro-day 40 at 6'6"/245 (AJC, 2023) — genuine end-zone jump-ball tools if a red-zone package ever materializes; his lone NFL catch is a TD.

Bear case

  • Career route participation is effectively zero: 11 offensive snaps, 0 targets, 0.0 fantasy points in 2025; 31 ST snaps in the same span. The NFL has had three seasons to give him routes and has chosen special teams every time — the RP gate fails at the deepest possible level.
  • The 2026 path is triple-blocked: R2 P54 capital added ahead of him, TE1 re-signed, veteran blocking TE signed, and he was already waived at cuts in 2025 from a *weaker* room. Making the 53 is itself an upset; routes are a parlay on top of it.
  • UDFA pedigree + weak P5 production (17-316-3 best season) + age 27 entering year 4 = every prior in prospect-pedigree.md says ignore; there is no breakout screen he qualifies for.

Projection & comps

Half PPR per methodology/league-settings.md (confirmed 2026-07-08: 0.5/rec, 6pt pass TD, no TE premium). Note: the tasking assumed full PPR from placeholder settings, but the league file now carries confirmed values, which supersede; at this volume the full-vs-half distinction is worth <3 points even at the ceiling and changes nothing.

OutcomeHalf-PPR ptsScenario
Floor (20th)0Waived at cuts (as in Aug 2025); practice squad or out of the league, no elevations with offensive usage
Median (50th)1Practice squad again, 1–3 gameday elevations, ST-only, 0–1 targets — his exact 2025 outcome (0.0 pts)
Ceiling (80th)13Makes the 53 as TE4/core-ST, sporadic 12/13-personnel snaps, ~5 tgts → ~4-45-1

Usage profile (te.md §2 table)

RP gate fails; table filled with career actuals for the record.

Pedigree screen (prospect-pedigree.md): UDFA 2023 (Jets) — capital rule: UDFA screens require *demonstrated NFL usage first*; none exists. College: FCS breakout at St. Francis PA (39-779-13 in 2019, school-record TDs) but P5 transfers produced 8-117-0 (South Carolina 2021) and 17-316-3 (Georgia Tech 2022) — fails the ≥15% team-target / top-2 receiving bar (Wikipedia, fetched 2026-07-08). Athletic flash is real but partial: ~4.5s pro-day 40 at 6'6"/245 with a weak 32" vertical (AJC pro-day report, 2023); official RAS UNVERIFIED. Age 27 (28 in Nov 2026), entering NFL year 4 — past the TE year-3 breakout window without ever earning routes, and the year-3 screen requires day-2+ capital he never had.

Context (from data/team-profiles/PHI.md, built 2026-07-07)

Scarcity-tier placement (te.md §7)

Off the board — below the punt tier. Punt-tier entry requires "one elite trait or a role bet"; Jenkins has a size/speed curiosity but no role bet available at any probability worth a roster spot. His PPG edge vs the streamer baseline is deeply negative (median ≈ 0.06 PPG). League has no TE premium and half PPR (confirmed 2026-07-08), which compresses reception value further — nothing shifts his tier. Not a pay-up asset, not a dead-zone trap, not a punt value: a waiver-pool name.
